MUSEUM INSTITUTE.
The council of the War Memorial Museum Institute met yesterday, the president, Dr. W. A. Fairclough, presiding. The resignation of Bishop Simkin, as honorary philatelist to the museum, was accepted. The director, Mr. G. Archey, said the present collection of stamps did not warrant the expense of cabinets for a special display, but it might be proper to collect stamps for display at some future time.
j The director said that since the last council meeting 26 gifts had been received. Tney included the handsome feather decorated dancing mask from New Britain presented by Mr. P. B. Armitage; fish-hooks and adzes of shell from the low coral island of Maupiti presented by Mr. L. H. Trenn; another election of Chinese antiquities from Captain W. F. Collins, of Southern Rhodesia; a cast of a .large wooden crested image from Hawaii presented ■by the Canterbury Museum; a eet of botanical field note books presented by Professor Arnold Wall; and an Oak cabinet inlaid with ivory, probably Hiepano-Mooresque deposited by> Mr. L. W. Alexander.
