NOUMEA'S REQUEST. NO SHIPPING AVAILABLE The possibility of trade between New Zealand and New Caledonia was mentioned at a meeting of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce tku morning. The question was raised by a communication from Noumea, which stated that Xe.w Caledonia could export coffee, copra, fish, minerals and other commodities in return for cement and Xew Zealand primary products. The Northern Steam Ship Company, in reply to an inquiry, stated that the* company had no spare or suitable boat for the service, nor did the companv consider that the trade warranted V direct service. The Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., stated that the trade would not warrant the company detaching a vessel for the service. The president, Mr. N. B. Spencer, said that there was nothing that they could do in the meantime.
