VAN HITS POLE.
DRIVER INTOXICATED.
An engineer, John Alexander (41), was brought before Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., in the Police Court today when he admitted being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor vehicle in Ladies Mile Road on September 14. Mr. Singer represented Alexander. Sub-Inspector Cajwell said a van driven by Alexander collided with a telegraph pole in Ladies Mile, Road about 6 p.m. on September 14. The doctor who examined Alexander at the police station certified . that he . was intoxicated and unfit to be in charge of a motor vehicle. The van was badly damaged. Mr. Singer submitted the case was not a ba-d one, but was due to misfortune. Counsel urged that a fine be imposed rather than a term'of imprisonment. ' Alexander was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment with! hard' labour. His license was cancelled, no other to be issued for twelve mouths.
