! Labour Candidate Wins By 230 Votes. FIGURES OF FINAL COUNT. (Reed. 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Mr. Williams, the official Labour candidate, won the Rvde by-election for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, beating Mr. A. J. Mitchell, the Government candidate, by 230 votes. Mr. Mitchell led ou tlie primary I count, but a high proportion of the second preferences for Labour in votes for iii<k*i«Mideiu, candidates placcd Mr. Williams ahead, the final figures beiny: Mr. Williams 10.908; Mr. Mitchell 10.078. The by-election was caused by the resignation of Mr. Eric Spooner to contest a Federal seat.
