Mr. Rule was awarded the medal for his work on the new surgical block at Timaru Hospital. The death has occurred in Wanganui pi Captain J. W. Crotty, who was born in Cobli. Ene, 80 years ago. He went to sea before the mast when he was 13 ?■«"'■ £'<I and came to Ne.v Zealand in 1890. For many years he was in the service of the Union Steam Ship Company, and was later engaged in the coastal trade, being captain of several ships. His wife died five years ago and he leaves one daughter and five sons, the latter including Mr. T. V. Crotty (Foxton).
