LOCAL BODIES.

MT. ROSKILL ROAD BOARD. The fortnightly meeting of the board was held last evening, the chairman, Mr. C. M. McCullough, presiding. Fire Board Balldlng.—The Metropolitan Plre Board advised that In consequence of the requirements of the Public Works Department regarding the design for the new building It Is necessary to raise a further loan of £40,000 and asked for the board's consent to the proposal. The board decided to await a report from its finance committee aa to the extra annual cost to the board Involved. .W»»er Meters.—The board resolved to purchase 100 new metres, for which an Import license application had been deposited. Dwelling.—The board decided to pro, hibit the further occupation of a shed which has been in use as a dwelling. Bate Collection.—The clerk submitted a report on the collection of rates, which showed that 74 per cent of the levy, representing £20,458, had been paid to date. This is the best result achieved during the past 10 years. Finance.—The board having a substantial credit balance. It was decided to place the sum of £10,000 on fixed deposit. Collection of Metals.—As a house-to-house collection Is not considered practicable an alternative method is being arranged whereby depots will be established in the boards district Xor the reception of non-ferrous metal. Municipal Balldlng.—The Minister ol Internal Affairs forwarded a copy of recent legislation empowering road boards to proceed with the erection of municipal buildings. Main Highway.—The district council of the Highways Board advised that authority had been given tor the expenditure of £75 on the Mount Albert Road, the board to contribute £15. -™«™ Permits.—Building permits to the value of £3374 have been Issued during the past fortnight. Ten dwellings are In course of erection, exclusive of State houses.
