LYNNDALE JUNIOR'S WIN. NORTHERN CLUB'S FINE FINISH Lynndale decided its annual race over tlie hilly round-the-harbomr course on Saturday. Twenty-five riders started and 17 finished inside the time limit, while three, including Hughes (scr) punctured. With a handy start of 25 minutes, G. W. Hoklen, 17-year-okl member, held the lead practically all the way an<l finish©.! an easy winner, 52 seconds ahead of R. Campbell, who has made a moat successful return to the sport. R. Herk, the leadjunior, was third after a great effort which also gave liLm second fastest time. W. A. Barnett (scratch) won the club title in lh 58m 46s for the 40 miles course, and proved himself a very fit rider by leaving J. Hill and R. E. Olark, f?llow scraitch men, on the rise out of Henderson, about four miles from the finish. L. Hawkey was third fastest and 3.19 better than hie brother Haddon. . T T he proverbial blanket finish terminated the Northern Club s 22 l ,4 miles event for the President e Cup. Six riders went over the line for K. Tanfield. one of three racing brothers, to win oy inches from another improving junior. L. E. Horscroft. D. Dyer clocked the course in 92.35 to ?® fastest. P. O'Gorman and M. Harland, scratch, failed to display any brilliance. The Manukau riders had a spirited race for the Carnival Cup over the big course of 5.1 miles to the laj>. Five lnps. 26 miles, were covered by most of the 33 starters. Buchanan won by inches from Raper after a hard side by side sprint for the last 100 yards. Buchanan has won two events over the larger course this year. Throughreceived fine pacing assistance from Raper and Simpson-Beer, the trio forming a formidable combination, and at cr.e time shared the lead with 12 other riders. Hills was the only one of the dozen to stand the pace. M. C. Johnson gave another of his determined exhibitions of fast work from scratch, during which he rode away from Chatfleld, Thomas, Wilson and Stonex. Johnson clocked 70.37 to reduce Thomas' record by 8 seconds. Thomas and Wilson finished about a minu.e later, and Stonex retired with a puncture. A hard contest between the five is anticipated in the club championship next Saturday week, the last race of the club season. Beach Haven seniors outclassed the visiting North Shore Club riders in the invitation event. J. A Marris went right through from scratch to finish about 400 yards ahead of R. Ella, while veteran H. Evans did his best for North Shore by finishing third, half a mile behind Ella in the 20-mile race. North Shore juniors had their revenge and took all placings. Scott and Adams did some useful pacing for most of the 8 miles course, when Scott went away to an easy victory, with Cancare fastest in 23.43, the only rider to better 20 m.p.h. Next Saturday the Northern Club will hold its annual title race over the harbour course of 44 mxles. Fred O'Gorman won the title in club record time of 2h 3m 55s last year. Manukau will hold Its fifteenth annual race for the Cotter Cup. first won fastest LCn Chambers » wlth MaL Byrnes S. Baker won the eighteenth road race of the season organised by the Matamata Amateur Cycling Club. This was Baker's third win of the season. The course was one of 36 miles. B. Hirst was second. There were 16 starters.
