OBITUARY.
MR. ANDREW RIDLING. Mr. Andrew Ridling, one of the early pioneers of Auckland, has died at Grey Lynn at the age of 80. Mr. Ridling was born at Sunderland, England, and arrived in Auckland with his parents when four yeans of age. He was the oldest survivor of the original settlers at Richmond, Grey Lynn, and when the family tbok up residence the only communication with the city whs by "way of a tea-tree track, the nearest grocery store being at the foot of Grey's Avenue. Mr. Ridling was one of the foundation members of St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, Ponsonby. In 1877 he married Miss Ellen Gray, of Huia, Manukau, one of the earliest white children born in the country. He is survivid by four sons and four daughters. His wife predeceased him 14 years ago.
