LOCAL BODIES.
NEW LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL. The council held its ordinary meeting on Monday. Rate Collections.—The town clerk reported that current rates totalling £8160 were collected to August 28, which was the last discount date. By a coincidence the amount was the same as last year, and the percentage collected showed a reduction ox .21 per cent. It is expecied that collections by penalty dates will be in excess of last year. The credit balance at the bank v.as £3118. an increase of £789 on last year. After allowing for accounts to be paid. £5610. and sundry creditors, £549. the net indebtedness was £2751. a reduction of £432 as at the same date last year. The council annroved of the town clerk's suggesi j cov ej the overdraft requirements for the remainder of the year by taking money at call. v? j c Work.—The engineer reported that tne nand packing on the cycle track at the New Lynn domain to prevent erosion of the soil had been commenced and although it was slow work £ -J° b would result.
