GRAPEFRUIT DEMAND SLOW. LARGE VEGETABLE SUPPLIES. The demand was still keen for Winter Xelis pears at the Auckland city markets to-day, but supplies will soon be finished. About the usual demand was reported for tree tomatoes. There was rather a slow sale for Xew Zealand grapefruit. Cabbage and swedes were in oversupply, it being impossible to quit the offering. Good quantities of cauliflower were also available, and sold at recent rates. Supplies of carrots were heavy, with qoality lines realising fair values, but others selling at low rates. Fair prices were obtained for good quantities of parsnips. Pumpkins were in good supply, with choice lines of Triumple variety realising high values. Recent rates were obtained for good supplies of kumaras, while both Southern and Ohakune potatoes, which were in heavy supply, brought low prices. Good quantities of new potatoes came on the market and sold at very high rates, as did also small consignments or hothouse beans and green peas. Supplies of asparagus were much heavier and prices were lower than last week. Hothouse cucumbers were in fair 6upply and realised high values. Celery was in heavy supply, with good prices for choice lines. Good quantities of lettuce sold well, and rhubarb, which was also in good supply, sold at recent values. FRUIT. Prices were:—Apples: Granny Smith. 9/ to 8/6 per case; Delicious. 10' to 10/6: Sturmer. 10/ to 10/6. Pears: Winter Nells, 14/ to 17/ per case: P. Barry, 10/6 to 12/. Bananas: 27/ per case. Tree tomatoes: New Black, 6/ to 11/ per case: Yellow, 6/ to 10/. Marmalade oranges: 4/ to 7/ per case. Grapefruit: New Zealand, large choice, 7/ to 10/ per case: imported, others. 4/ to 6/6. POULTRY. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium and the demand was .lust fair. The prices paid were a shade lower all round. Selling rates were as follow:—Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 5/ to 6/ each; not prime. 3/6 to 4/6; light breeds, prime, 4/ to 5/; not prime. 2/ to 3'. Pat hens: Heavy breeds, 4/ to 6/: light breeds. 3/ to 4/. Drakes: Young, prime. 4/6 to 8/. Ducks: Young, 3/ to 4/. Day-old chicks: 8.0.. 2d each; L., unsaleable. EGGS, FARMERS' BUTTER. Eggs.—Hen: Standard grade, 1 -'6 1 2 per dozen. Duck: Standard grade. 1/6' i. Farmers' Butter.—l/ Ito 1/4 per lb.
