Some cf the 400 German 'planes participating in attempts to reach London this afternoon jettisoned their bombs as they went fleeing back. They did some damage in south-east England. A high explosive bomb demolii-hed a row of house* in a London district, but not a single casually was caused as the occupants were underground. 'Planes shot down over London fell alongside Victoria Station, also in Kenuington and ijtreatham. One Spitfire made such a r.ic/v= of another over St. James' Park that its fragments provided souvenirs for huadreds of people. One German who parachuted into a suburb began shouting "Kamerad'." be- 1 fore lie. reached the ground. A crowd of civilians waiting to receive him tore his parachute to pieces for souvenirs. Bombs fell in widely separated parte of Britain and Wales, and a few encinv aircraft penetrated the central area of London. Most of the bombs were | dropped in the suburbs and the outlying districts. Blocks of bouses were Jiit in two districts, and some damage was also caused in the city, where a fire started. It is now under control.
