SOME INCREASES.
RAILWAY OFFICERS. "CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE." "The institute has worked hard to get these crumbs from the table," remarked Mr. J. W. Shepherd, chairman at the annual reunion of the Auckland ibranch of the New Zealand Railway Offioere* Institute, in announcing increases for salaried officers of the Railway Departme-nt as contained in a tetegram which he had received from the Dominion secretary. He emphasieed that the institute would continue to make representations for improvemente in salary. Other speakers, in referring to the increase, urged that' the case of junior officers especially ehould 'be looked into. The changes consisted of an increase of £3 5/ per annum for officers under 18 who were employed near their homes; an increase of £ti 10/ for those in the same class living away from home; officers over 18 in receipt of up to £335 to receive an additional £13, and an increase of £7 a year to T* granted to those with ealaries of £335.
