CLUBS AND SOCIETIES.
Pen women's Club.—An address on "Stars, and Plays of a By-Gone Year'' was given !>y Mr. Frank Broad. He referred especially to the enterprises of George Edwardes, whose success included "The Belle of New York" and '•The Merry Widow." The president, Mrs. Helen Griffiths, presided. At the Scptemiber meeting of the Drama Circle a programme of songs and sketches was presented and an instrumental trio also gave an item.
United Women.—Various aspects of life in Russia to-day were described by Mrs. H. J. Scott who has just returned from a nine months' stay in Moscow. The position of women, the high standard of education, which permits the child of an unskilled worker to qualify for the professions, and the development of the theatre, were some of the points touched on.
Manx Society.—The monthly social and dance was held in the society's new hall, the British Legion's rooms, Shortland Street. The jruests were welcomed by the president, Mr. R. Gatfield. Solos were rendered by Mr. McGregor, accompanied I>y Airs. McPherson.
D.X. Club.—Another successful social and dance was held by the Auckland branch N.Z. D.X. club in the Carlton Hall, Sandringham, when popular dances were enjoyed by the 190 guests present.
