TEL-AVIV RAID. Casualties Draw Arabs And Jews Closer.* British Official Wireless. (Reed, noon.) RUGBY, Sept. 12. Casualties resulting from the Italian raid on Tel-Aviv totalled 228 people, of whom 104, including 96 Jews, seven Arabs and one Australian were killed. The remainder were seriously wounded. The raid lias done nothing to lower the exceptionally high morale of the Jewish population, and the Arab reaction, both in Jaffa and its neighbourhood, is one of warm sympathy with the Jewish sufferers and intense anger against the Italians. Pamphlets which the Italians dropped amongst the Ar.ab population have been treated with scorn. The Mayor and members of the Municipal Council at Jaffa—all of them Arabs—attended a maes funeral of Jewish victims of the raid. j
ITALIAN REPORTS. BRITISH AIR ACTIVITY. (Reed. 11 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 12. A communique states: "We bombed by night and by day the railway along the Egyptian coast, also enemy encampments at Solium and Sidi Barrani, causing fires and explosions. We machine-gunned enemy armoured units. "The British ineffectually tried to raid Derna. We destroyed a Blenheim bomber and probably another. One of ours has not returned. We sank two enemy destroyers at Aden on September 1. "Italian 'planes bombed Khartoum airport, Hayia railway junction and Atbara airport. All our 'planes returned. The British attempted to attack Kassala bridgehead, but Italian guns sent them back after an hour's engagement. Another enemy attack on Cherilli was also repulsed. "The enemy bombed Assab Chachaman, south from Addis Ababa, causing slight damage. An enemy 'plane was shot down. Enemy 'planes attempted to raid Massawa naval base but dropped their bombs into the sea. Two raiders were destroyed at Deesye on Monday. "An Italian submarine sank 27,000 tons of enemy chipping in tlje Atlantic." 50 PERSONS KILLED. JAP. RESERVOIR COLLAPSES. (Reed. 10.30 a.m.) TOKYO, Sept. 12. A rain storm, accompunying a typhoon, which struck Kyushyu Island (Japan) yesterday, has caused the collapse of the reservoir in the Oita Prefecture, killing 50 persons.
