500 MEN IDLE.
GLEN AFTON MINES. TROUBLE OVER WET-TIME. The Glen Afton Collieries are idle today, approximately 500 men being affected. Trouble started last week when 200 men engaged in the McDonald section of the mines, refused to work, the mine being idle on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The men returned to their employment on Friday and worked on Monday and Tuesday of this week as well. They did no work yesterday or to-day. The Glen Afton mine, which employs about 300 men was idle to-day, all the mining employees of Glen Afton Collieries thus being out. The original cauee of the trouble concerned a demand for the payment of one man's claim for wet-time payment. This dispute was revived yesterday when, after working for an hour, the men decided to go home. It is stated that the men held a meeting to receive a report from the disputes committee yesterday and laet night the Northern Miners' Union executive held a meeting to discuse the situation, it being afterwards announced that no finality had been. reached. A further meeting hae been called for this afternoon.
