U.S. PRESS REPORT. Attempt Made In August "Failed Disastrously." United Press Association.—Copyright. (Reed. 10 a.m.) LONDON*, Sept. 11. The Xew York "Suu" says that letters to French residents from independent sources in Paris and occupied France, reveal that a Nazi attempt to land troops in England in August failed disastrously. The invading fleet, it is stated, started from St. Malo, on the mainland south of the Channel Islaude, in the expectation of landing on the west coast. The attempt proved suicidal. Two letters referred to the incident, both surmising that the news had already been published outside France. Neither gave details nor the date, but one letter was dated August 28. It referred casually to the "suicidal attempt at debarkation." A letter from Paris from a French official acting as liaison to the German Army, eaid: "Paris is full of German officers who are having a wonderful time. They are hoping to be allowed to stay, and are especially hoping and praying that they will not be chosen to participate in another disastrous attempt to debark troops in England. ,,
