GOLF FINAL.
TWO VISITORS. AUCKLAND LADIES' TITLE. MRS. GLANVILLE MEETS MRS. DYKE THIS AFTERNOON. Last year's winner of the Auckland ladies" provincial golf championship, Mrs. 3 i" li A ( '. lanvi ! lc » o£ Te Awamutu, entered the final again this morning at Titirangi and will play Mrs. K. Dyke,, of Nelson, tins afternoon. Mrs. Dyke, whose first appearance it is in the Auckland Province, had an easy win this morning over Mrs I. Rota, of Hawera, but Mrs. Glanville was taken to the seventeenth by the Titirangi player, Mrs. L. F. Faram. The *tle-holder was not playing well this morning, her driving being consistently at fault, but Mrs. Faram did not avail herfclf of opportunities presented. There was * lack of crispneEs. in her shots, while mistakes on the greens let Mrs. Glanville out on a couple of occasions.
ivfiss Glanville got the lead at the second hole when her opponent sliced her drive to the gully, but they were square when Mrs. Farani holed a long putt for a 4 at the third. Three of the next four holes, including both the one-shotters, were won by Mrs. Glanville, the seventh green being one on which Mrs. Faram three putted. There was Ho change until the twelfth, although Mrs. Faram narrowly missed winning the tenth in 4 when a 20ft putt hit the back of the hole and jumped out. Her turn came at the twelfth, though.she nearly frittesed it away. Mrs. Glanville sliced her tee shot, and, though it fortunately missed'trouble, a similar mistake with her next found her in the rough. She eventually thissed a putt for a 6, which would have.;given her a half, Mrs. Faram three putting after getting on in three. At the nest Mrs. Faram struck trouble, losing her .ball off the. second shot, and Mrs. Glanville was 3 up again.
, A well-played fourteenth gave Mrs. 'Faram a win there, and she took the next, too, when Mrs. Glanville skied her tee shot into the gully. Thus the lead had been reduced to one. It was a rather fortunate break for Mrs. Glanville when she holed a eix-fpoter for a winning four at the sixteenth, after hitting her second shot on the head. The end came, Mre;Gliinville, 2 and■ 1, when the seventeenth was halved.
Mne. Rota, •who' played quite w|ll yeeterday to defeat Mre. L. Cornaga-'lind iiysi-; dentally win the concurrent Stableford with 32 pointe, quite out of touch thiri morning, and Mrs; 'Dyke had the-game inher grip after half a dozen hole*. She: etarted with a birdie 3 and won the third, ■ fourth, fifth (in 7) and.eixth. Mrs. Rota got a respite at the eeventb, her three being a winner, and reduced the lead to 4 down. The Nelson player made it 6 by winning the ninth and tenth. After playing a grand tee shot to the eleventh green and narrowly mineing a 2, which .ehe needed to win, Mrs. Rota won the twelfth hole. There Mrs. Dyke drove into a fairway bunker and put her next into further trouble. The end came when Mre. Dyke got a 4 at The Wrecker with one putt, •winning 6 and 5. Yesterday afternoon, when she defeated Mrs. Whale, the Nelson player had the best half of the tournament, 38. Mrs. Faram yeeterday afternoon defeated Mips N. Smillie, who had qualified top, the match going to the eighteenth. Mre. Faram made a good etart with three bogeys and won the holee, but the match was square at the eleventh. Mies Smillie hardly played as well as previously and Mrs. Faram made few mistakes over the vital part of the match. .At the last hole Miss Smillie played a wood for her second shot ami found the bunker, and that fina. error settled the ieeue. In the semi-finals of the Middlemore Cup Mrs. B. M. Sellers (Titirangi) beat Mre. A. R. Abbott (Auckland), 6 and 5, and Mrs. G. W. Foote (Rotorua) beat Mrs. F. Preston (Akarana), 1 up.
