EMPLOYMENT OF WOMEN. WHANGAREI, this day. The Whangarei railway station has <1 \ -\rted from custom and has engaged Miss A. Flanaghan to operate the railway telephone exchange. In the past this duty has invariably been performed bv a male cadet. When Mr. F. L. Milne, cadet of the staff, left on active service, he wae not replaced. However, to assist in the staffing reorganisation, Miss Flanaghan was later appointed. It was stated today that suggestions had been made that women might fill other positions on railway staffs in other parts of New Zealand.
