THE WAGES INCREASE
COUNTY COUNCIL'S COMMENT. HAMILTON, Wednesday. "Local bodies will have to protest against these continual rises in living costs, which will mean that the ratepayers will have to pay more," said the chairman, Mr. J. A. Sampson, at a meeting of the Waikato Comity Council, when the recent 5 per cent wases increase to award workers was discussed. Mr. Sampson said the council represented the farmers, whose income in many cases was less than that of the union workers. Mr. G. H. Walter said that with the recent taxes and increased farmers' costs had increased by from 10 to 15 per cent. Mr. Walter said it would be grossly unfair if by dint of extra efforts to increase production on account of the war the farmer had any increased income he made taken away from him bv taxation. '
