AMUSEMENTS.
ROXY-TIVOLI. "Philo Vance," the astute amateur detective, swings into the melodramatic spirit of the timts in his latest picture, "Calling Phik> Vance," for he ventures into tihe realm of espionage. Based on S. S. Van Dine's "Kennel Murder Case," the story is a modern one, and stars James Stephenson and Margot Stevenson. It will begin its local season to-morrow at the head of the bill at the Roxy and Tivoli Theatres. Included in an excellent cast are Henry O'Neill, Ed Brophy, Ralph Forbes, Donald Douglas and Sheila Bromley. The screen play, in true Van Dine style, has a bewildering number of clues and an equally baffling number of suspects. In the role of Vance Stephenson is a complete success, according to reports from overseas. Associate feature at both ■theatres will be the film "Half a Sinner," which features in leading roles the capable young players Heather Angel and John King. They are stated to make a fine romantic team.
