OTAHUHU COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor. Mr. C. R. Petiie. M.P., presiding. ■est Beam.--Owing to the cost of the erection of the Centennial Rest Boom being higher than at first anticipated, the aommlttee wrote soliciting assistance from the council. To meet the amount ot ,. £9 ?° "S"*"* It was suggested that a street collection be made, also sporting activities arranged. The council as a whole was formed Into a committee to formulate a programme. • Mcnie Denatlen. — A request for rrrtitanrr towards an Auckland Trades Hall picnic fund was received, but as the council makes an annual donation for its own employees' picnic* no action was taken. Waste Metals Ceflecflea.—ln compliance with a request from the Metropolitan Patriotic Committee regarding the collection of non-ferrous metals it was resolved to accede to the request and a committee was formed to carry out the work. Fire Base.—Owing to the impossibility at present of acquiring canvas fire hose from «Mgi«nd for local fire brigade purposes It was decided to lean the matter In abeyance. Appiw Istlaa.—The work done by the council in reforming and sealing Portage Road was the subject of an appreciative letter from the Auckland Saleyards Company. The letter referred to the deplorable state of Saleyards Road, which was recognised by the council as a work to be taken in hand in the near future. "***»» Sebesse—lt£. A. Murdoch submitted a report on the free library service, dealing with the number of books which would be available to Otahuhu. Pmaatag statu*.—The compressor plant at the Pumping station has been installed and is now to working order. The trials have proved the Installation to be most successful. The concreting of the well u now being carried out.
