WILSON HOME.

CONTROL QUESTION. I HOSPITAL BOARD VIEWS. The question of control of the Wilson Home was discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board last evening. Recently the Xew Zealand Crippled Children Society (Auckland branch), asked the board to give effect to a clause in the Wilson Home trust deed in which the board promised to obtain legislation to put the management committee of the home on a proper footing. A special committee of the board reported that a legal opinion had been given that if the suggested legislation were secured, apart from giving the society the right to appoint three members of the committee, neither the society nor* the committee would have any greater powers than at present, unless additional rights were expressly given. Mrs. M. M. Dreaver moved that the board discuss the matter with representatives of the Crippled Children Society. The Rev. W. C. Wood said he could not understand the "smoke screen" being set up. The society had asked the board to give effect to a promise which was crystallised in a clause in the trust deed to make the co-opting of three members * right, and not a privilege. The chairman, Mr. Allan J. Moody, said that he would not use the word "sinister," but there was something behind the whole thing, as the society wanted the right to dictate, to nominate and practically to run the whole show. He wished that the board had never taken it over. He did not decry the handsome gift by Mr. and Mrs. Wilson. If anyone suggested that the board had acted dishonestly the suggestion could be treated with contempt. The board decided not to discuss the matter with representatives of the society, and the report of the special committee was received and adopted.
