THIS MORNING'S WORK.

PINK COAT PLEASES.

FALSE SCENT SPRINTS FAST. There was a slight drizzle when training work commenced at Ellerslie this morning, but it cleared off, and the weather, though dull, was fine for training work. The course proper, with the flags about forty feet out from the rails) was available for fast work, and No. 3 grass track was also open, and a number of horses were sent over the steeplechase course. The going Avas fairly. good. The Course Proper. Respirator beat Thursby and Kawainga by about a length and a-half over live furlongs in 1.7 1-5. King Emerald was in front of Gold Money and Eager Rose at the finish of five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. .The furlongs were covered 'in 25 2-ss. War Officer, Good Idea and Restaurant were about on terms at the end of half a mile, in 53 l-ss. Restaurant pulled up lame after the gallop. Chief Link and Grand Spirit hopped away at the half-mile post, -and were together at the finish, the time being 51 4,55. Neil strode over six furlongs in 1.27, without being hurried. Hannibal was going better than Wild Country at the end of five furlongs, in 1.9 2-5. There was nothing between Myola and' Lady Court over three furlongs, in 39 2-Ss. Cnrrajong was too good for Golden Wedding, Brampton and Salamander while running six furlongs in 1.20. Brampton did not begin as well as the others, but was finishing on nicely. Manawhenua beat Running Over at the conclusion of a half-mile sprint in 53 4-ss. Alloy and Palmares jumped away in front of Bombarder at the five-furlong post, Alloy finishing in front in 1.6. Standfast was timed to run the last six furlongs of his work in 1.24 4-5. The southern three-year-old Pink Coat had Silvermine as a companion over six furlongs. They were together all the way, and after running the first two furlings in 26s and three in 38 l-ss, completed the distance in 1.20. PinK Coat was on the outside, and as this was his first gallop at Ellerslie, which is the reverse way round to South Island tracks, .his effort was distinctly pleasing. Silvermine also did his work well. Corinax .was too good for The Lover while covering six furlongs in 1.21. Vallar was not doing his best to complete half a mile in 54 3-ss. The Mitchelson Cup candidate Amor had Leader as a companion over a mile. They ran the first half in 51 3-ss, and the full distance in ; 1.47 4-5. Leader was a shade in front at the finish, but Amor, who is not a good track worker, was finishing on strongly at the end. Mountain Guide and Singleton were sent over a mile, and the former had to be ridden hard down the straight to keep on terms with Singleton. The time was 1.48 1-5. Bennie was in front of Lady's Boy, with Mon Star several lengths back, at the end of a six-furlong gallop, "in 1.20 3-5. After Breakfast. Gay Cockade was going Detter than Diamond Queen" over half a mile, in 52 2-ss. Measurer and Spring Abbey ran five furlongs in 1.7 3-5. Red Lion and C'atoma were timed to run six furlongs in 1.23 1-5. Red Lion finished in front, but they were not doing their best. Speak Out and Thais ran five furlongs, but were not after time. Karamu completed a six-furlong task in 1.25." The two-year-old Our Comet jumped off at the mile barrier and cdvered a couple of furlongs along the back in 245. Luxurious ran home from the sixfurlong post in 1.24 4-5. Roman Pearl sprinted four furlongs in 555. Thespis, Rafflight, and Tremetus hit out very freely in a sprint down the. straight. Some Lady reeled off a five-furlong task in 1.6 3-5, and Good Boy was given a similar task, taking 54 2-5s for the last half mile. No. 3 Grass. Taneriri completed a circuit on this track in 1.45, running the last six furlongs in 1.22. Odin began slowly over a round, and completed the last seven furlongs in 1.41 2-5. The Jumpers. Salamander (H. Jones) was schooled over the big fences on the flat, giving a promising display. Karamu (McGregor) cleared a couple of hurdles in good style. Sir Archie (Nightingale) and Kauri Park (J. Burgess) gave a good jumping exhibition over four hurdles. Sir Archie afterwards did pace work on the sand, and Kauri Park was worked on the course proper, running the last half-mile in 555. Harbour View (McGregor) cleared a couple of schooling hurdles safely and afterwards did strong work on the No. 3 grass. Importer (J. Sharkey) -was given a couple of turns over the steeplechase fences on the flat, completing his task in a satisfactory manner. Marita (J. Burgess) gave a good display while negotiating the sod wall, double and stonewall. Tin Whistle (McGregor), Stonewall (Jones), Sea Comet (Sharkey), Adjuster (W.'Rowe) and Bizarro (Olive) started off for a round of the steeplechase course and were in the order mentioned after crossing the sodwall, double and stonewall, i Bizarro baulked at the brush fence near the mile post, and was not persevered with. Sea Comet was in front over the hill, with Stonewall and Tin Whistle next, Adjuster having stopped at the first fence on the hilL

Sea Comet. was still in front at the finish, with Tin Whistle and Stonewall together just behind him. Mashoor (L. Dulieu), Rayonnant (Buttervvorth), Calithe (H. Dulieu), Lady Spalpeen (Sharkey) and Adjuster (who had baulked at the fence on the hill while going with the previous bunch) were allotted a similar task. Calithe and Mashoor were the leaders over the fences on the fiat, Adjuster being pulled off after negotiating the brush. Calithe led Mashoor over the hill, with Lady Spalpeen and Uayonnant several lengths back. Calithe held his place to the finish and jumped the last obstacle, the stonewall, just ahead of Mashoor, with Lady Spalpeen, who finished on nicely, close up. Arrivals. Talisfcer and Vertigcrn in charge of W. D. Maroney,, - Great Charter and Chrysology, in charge of F.- Da.vis, and Merry Mint and Hunting Cry, in charge of J. Cameron, arrived from the South this morning. Eeremoana, Isa and Havering are due to-morrow morning. Scratchings. Paddon was scratched at 9 a.m. to-day for the Mitchelson Cup, and Gay Duke for all engagements.
