GRASS TRACK FIXTURES

ALLOCATION OF CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The racing season will be opened in the North on Labour Day, October 28, when the Whangarei Motor Cycle Club holds its meeting on the Kensington Park racecourse. In- all races the distance will be seven laps and for the eight events prize money totalling £121 has been set aside for distribution according to the classification of the race. Entries close with the secretary on October 19. The programme is as follows:— Kamo Handicap.—For machines up to 500 c.c. Prize money, £ 12. Maunu Handicap.—For machines up to 350 c.e. Prize money, £ 17. Kensington Handicap.—For machines up to 000 c.c. Prize money, £ 17. County Handicap.—For machines up to 500 c.c. Prize money, £17. Whangarei Handicap.—For machines lapping the course, in 53 seconds or better. Prize money, £ 17. Hikurangi Handicap.—For machines up to 500 c.c. Prize money, £ 12. ■ Portland Handicap.—For machines up to 350 c.c. Prize money, £17. Consolation Handicap.—For machines up to 500 c.c. Prize money, £ 12.

Amateur T.T., 1927. The 1927 amateur T.T. was again one mile an hour slower than the previous year and two miles an hour slower than 1925—the fastest lap going to the winner at 60.04 miles per hour. Ist—P. Hunt, Norton, averaged 57.66 miles per hour. \2nd—G. \V. Limmer, Scott, averaged 57.17 miles per Lour. 3rd—lD. de Ferranti, Scott, averaged 03.86 miles per hour. Senior T.T., ig2B. This race was run during heavy rain making the road surface extremely treacherous, reducing the average speed over six miles per hour on the preceeding year's performance. Ist—C. I. P. Dodson, Sunbeam, averaged 62.9S miles per hour. *-ud—G. E. Rowley, A.J.S., averaged ti1.27 miles per hour. 3rd—T. L. Hatch, Scott, averaged 60.59 '< miles per hour. , The fastest lap in this race was covered at 67.94 miles per hour by J. H. Simpson. Junior Event, ig2B. This race was run over the same course ae the senior 204 miles, and the conditions were favourable, so the average speed was again raised. Ist—A. Bennett, Veloeotte, averaged 08.65 miles per hour. 2nd—H. J. Willis, Velocettc, averaged 07.10 miles per hour. 3rd—K. Trcmlow, D.0.T., averaged 60.67 miles per hour. The fastest lap went to A. Bennett at 70.28 miles per hour. Lightweight Event, i9aß. The 1928 lightweight race was not as fast as the 1927 event, but as road-racing

is so easily affected by the weather conditions, this would' account for the speeds not being consistently higher each year. Ist—P. A. Longman, O.K. Supreme, averaged 62.90 miles per hour. 2ml—C. S. Barrow, Enlield, averaged 58.92 miles per hour. 3rd—E. Xremlow, D.0.T., averaged 55.83 miles per hour. Junior Amateur, 1928-. In 1928 two amateur races were held— the junior amateur for niachinee up to 350 c.c, and the senior amateur for machines up to 500 c.c. Ist—W. 11. T. Meageen, Rex Acme, averaged 61.58 miles per hour. 2nd— J. 'Hanson, Velocette, averaged 60.56 miles per hour. 3rd—D. 51. Chrysta), Velocette, averaged 57.95 miles per hour. ' The fastest lap in this race was covered at the speed of 04.08 miles per hour by the winner. Senior Amateur, 1928. . This race was run over a course of 226 milesj and as the entries accepted are privately owned machines with ownerrider, the average speed of 07.94 miles per hour is very creditable. Ist—P. Hunt, Norton, averaged 67.04 miles per hour. 2nd—W. L. Birch, Sunbeam, • averaged 66.88 miles per hour. * 3rd—G. L. Emery, Sunbeam, averaged 65.79 miles per hour. A fully detailed account of the 1929 Tourist Trophy, which was run on June 10, 12 and 14 respectively, appeared in these columns the winners being as follows:— Senior Event—lst, C. I. P. Dodson, Sunbeam. Junior Event—lst, P. J. Hicks, Velocette. Lightweight Event—lst, S. A. Craibtree, Excelsior. Amateur—lst, D. 51. Crystal, Velocette.
