AUSTIN CAR RALLY.
GATHERING- AT FERNDALE,
NEW CLUB FORMED.
The picturesque grounds at Ferndale, in the Henderson Valley, was the scene of a very animated gathering of motorists during the week-end. Shortly after 10.30 a.m. a procession of 84 Austen cars left the rendezvous, in Symonds Street, for Ferndale. They etxended over a mile in single formation, and arrived at their destination at 11.15. Over 250 people were soon scattered in family parties under the shady trees or by the side of a running stream. After lunch a number of events were carried out under the direction of Mr. H. S. N. Robinson. The following were the prize winners: Ladies' slow race, Miss E. Watts; men's slow race, Messrs. N. W. Yatea and A. Carr, tied; 12 h.p. slow race, Mrs. Crawford; married ladies'(race, 75yds, Mrs. Porteus; married men's race, 100 yds, Mr. Morrison; single men's race, Mr. Gladding; boys under 10, Trevod Morrison; girls under 10, Edna Hogwoocl. During the afternoon it was decided to form a club for the purpose of holding similar gatherings throughout the summer. The Austin Club was launched with 75 members, and the following officers: President, Sir Herbert Austin; committee, Messrs. H. S. N. Robinson (chairman), A. J. Parker, Austen Goss, W. Abraham, H. H. Gaudin and J. H. Thomas. No arrangements were made for the run home some delaying their return until the evening. All expressed their rilGasure with the opening run, and hoped it would be the forerunner of many others.
