SALE CANCELLED.
FRENCH WAR MUNITIONS. I (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 11 a.m.) V PARIS, September 29. In consequence of the Press outcry, chiefly on the grounds of the clanger ot arms going to the Communists, the sail l of war-time munitions has been cancelled. A cable received from Paris on Satur- ■ day stated that many of the newspapers - expressed alarm at the sale by auction on [ October 11 of munitions which belonged , to the Allies during the war. They ' included 8,000,000 cartridges and 30,000 rifles. The conditions of the sale stipulated 1 that only French buyers could purchase > the munitions, but they must export them < to Belgium within a year. The papers asked: "What is there to prevent the munitions finally going to Morocco, Syria, or Russia? Would it not be better to dump the lot into the ocean?"
