PACENT "TALKIE."
.1 ■ NEW EQUIPMENT IMPORTED. The 'latest talking picture equipment to arrive in New Zealand is the Pacent Reproducer System, and a demonstration of its qualities was given at the Edendale Theatre before representatives of film houses and exhibitors. The apparatus includes many up-to-date improvements, and there was general comment as to the simplicity of the mechanism, and how provision had been made to eliminate sources of potential trouble that earlier plants had shown. The greatest improvement was in regard to tonal quality of reproduction, and it was suggested that this was clue to cone loud speakers replacing horns. Favourable remarks were heard as to the naturalness of the sound reproduced, and the general opinion expressed was that the voices were very clear and distinct. A varied programme was selected to thoroughly teet the equipment, including vocal, instrumental, choral, orchestral and dialogue pictures, all being reproduced wonderfully well. An Auckland firm, Reproducer Systems, Ltd., is the New Zealand distributor, and up to the present 12 installations have been ordered - , the first of which will go into the Regent Theatre, Morrinsvilfe, and be tested there this week.
