IMPROVED SHIPPING SERVICE.
N.Z. TO WEST COAST PORTS. LONDON", August 23. A piece of work achieved by the cooperation of the New Zealand Produce Boards has just been brought off, much to the satisfaction of all three boards concerned. A better shipping service direct from New Zealand to west coast porta , has been arranged—Avonmoutn, (Bristol), Liverpool, and Glasgow are concerned in this. For the six months, December to June, there will be this direct service to one or other of these ports once a fortnight, during, the rest of the year, once a ! month. Hitherto the service for these ports has Jbeen by boats via Panama, which called at United States ports or came-to London and the uncertainty of the trips caused difficulty. The trouble in the past was to obtain regularity of arrival here. They were dispatched from the Dominion regularly enough, but the calls at other ports en route made arrival in this country irregular and often resulted ■in a number of boats coming in together and a long gap before others came. The new service aims at direct shipment to the west coast ports and regular dates of arrival. This- should make a big difference to west coast trade and constitutes a real step to dwentrali- , sation. ■-■•' - :
