SYDNEY WOOL SALES.
HAVE VALUES REACHED BOTTOM? Writing from Sydney on September 10, Winqhcombe, Carson, Ltd., report:— Judging by their operations at the initial Sydney wool sales of the season, French consumers are satisfied that values have reached bottom basis. Demand from Yorkshire, Germany, Italy and Belgium was experienced in good volume, but bidding from France must be given chief credit for creating a market. So far as the Sydney and Brisbane auctions are concerned, that development is satisfactory, for France is usually the largest buyer in the two centres, taking 320,000 bales last season. Owing to the dry season the New South Wales and Queensland clips are particularly suitable for the Continent and good orders from that quarter will be necessary for the wool to command a ready sale. !
The relative quietness of Japan at opening sales is not an unusual feature. Japanese millmen rarely forward orders freely until a basis of rates is more or less established. But indications point to Japan again requiring bulky quantities of of the staple this Season.
