COURSING.

REVIVAL OF SPORT. SUCCESSFUL MEETING HELD. The recently-formed Auckland Coursing Club held its opening meeting on the ngrere on Saturday afternoon, before a gorfd gere on Saturday afternoon, before a good attendance of interested spectators. Some good runs were provided by the hares, especially in the final courses when they knew where to find the escapes. Only eight kills were registered during the afternoon. The committee could well make one or two improvements to avoid unnecessary delays if they are to secure the support of the public. However, considering that this was the first coursing held in Auckland for fifteen years, they aid well to run off both stakes during the afternoon. Failing light and the dogs having to chase the hares with the sun in their eyes caused them to miss the hares two or three times at the finish, one pair of dogs having to be slipped three times before a course could be judged. Several officials of the Hamilton Coursing Club journeyed down and gave valuable assistance and advice, which was much appreciated. The Open Stakes, of £15 and a cup for the winner, with £7 and two dogs valued at two guineas each for the runnerup, was won by Mr. J. Crowley, x>f Hamilton, with hie dog Beau Geste, while the runner-up was Mr. A. P. Willie's dog, Wild Prince. The Maiden Stakes, of £15, with £7 for the runner-up and two dogs valued at two guineas each, wae taken by Messrs. Beaufort and Pennel, of Auckland, with their doge Emerald Isle and Irish Hope. The final of this event wae not run off owing to Irish Hope having had three runs in the semi-final through failing light. Details:— OPEN STAKES.
