ANNIVERSARY FAIR.
. Three years ago Belmont moved up from a home mission station to the ! state of a church extension charge, with the Rev. S. J. Atkins as minister. The birthday fair, which was opened on Friday by the Mayoress, Mrs. Julius Williamson, celebrated the- Church's further advance in rising to a fully selfsustaining charge, the congregation being unanimous in calling the Rev. S. J. Atkins to be its permanent minister. On opening the- sale, Mrs. Williamson was presented with a hand-painted handkerchief by little Jean Hepburn. The stalls and hall (Parish) were decorated with blue and gold and a large three-tier birthday cake was formally cut by Mrs. Williamson. Many articles on sale were the work of the Belmont lady associates, with Mrs. Atkins as president and Miss M. Spooner as secretary. Stallholders were: Produce, Mrs. Wheatley and Mrs. T. Saxon; cakes, Mrs. Stokes, Mrs. McEldowney; sweets, Mrs. M. Kay, Mrs. R. W. Young, and Mrs. C. Irvine; men's stall, Mr. Phillips and Mr. McEldowney; children's stall, Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Hill, Mf6. Paul; work stall, Mrs. Kessell, Mrs. Phillips and Mrs. W. C. Leggatt; tearoom, Mrs. Hepburn, Mrs. Glassey, Mrs. Shearer and Mrs. Banks. A gas stove cooking demonstration was given both Friday and Saturday by Mrs. Hay, assisted by Mrs. Bramley and Miss Urquhart. On Saturday evening a fairy play was given by the children of the Intermediate Efficiency Club, with Miss M. Spooner and Mrs. A*kins as producers. The fairies who frequent "Rosemary Green," as the play was called, steal little Phoebe from her mother, leaving a fairy changling in •her place. As the story develops the scheme proves a failure and the child Phoebe is returned to her mother. It was prettily staged and acted, and the audience showed , its appreciation. The children taking part were: Phoebe, Florrie Payne; the changling, Gladys Marks; the mother, Alice Trenwith; fairies, Sally Nettleton, Phyllis Grey, Margaret Hepburn, Olwyn Bond, Peggie Gibson, Thelma Stokes, Connie Simpson, Dodothy Smith, Xandra Atkins; a blue moon seller, Jessie Banks. Friday's takings amounted to £50.
