TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION.
DINNER AND SOCIAL EVENING. The annual dinner and social gathering of the Auckland Typographical Union took place on Saturday evening at the Grosvenor Cafe. There were about 130 guests present, Including representatives of the employers, of related trades,' and the country districts, also Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P. for Wellington North. Full justice having been done to the menu, the following toasts were honoured; "The King," proposed by the president, Mr. W, J, Simmonds. and honoured with the National Anthem; "Our Guests," proposed by Mr. S. Learning, vice-president, and responded to by Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P.; "Related "Trade*," proposed by the secretary. Mr. F. A- Cleveland, and acknowledged by Mr. J. Melnnarney. secretary of the Related Printing Trades' Union; "Our Employers," proposed by Mr. H. Pollock, and responded to by Mr. K. B. Wilson, of the "Now Zealand Herald," and Mr. G. Clark, president of the Master Printers' Union. Songs were rendered in a very acceptable manner by Messrs. H. Pawsey, L. Stuart, J. McMinn, Beck, J. Halford, T. Cooper, and L. Bickerton; aho an instrumental duet by Messrs. R. Preston and B. Lydford. Mr. W. Purcell acted ns accompanist. During the evening a vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Sir George Femvick and Mr. Nisbet McKobie wae passed, all standing.
