FIRE IN GRAFTON.
HOUSE CONSIDERABLY DAMAGED. Two rooms and a passageway were badly gutted by a fire which broke out in a house at 20, Carlton Gore Road, Grafton, about 0 o'clock last liight. The fire started in the back of the house and swept through the two rooms to the passage before the brigade could check the flames. The contents of the dwelling were also damaged by emoke and water. Occupied by Mrs. Mangwell, the house was owned by Mr. D. Flynn. Insurance covers the building to the extent of £1000, while the contents are also insured.
TWO HOUSES DESTROYED.
WATER SUPPLY INADEQUATE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day, Two Eastbourne residences were burnt early on Saturday morning. One, occupied by fishermen, was owned by Mr. Guiseppe Brazzillo, who-is on a visit to Italy. The other was owned and occupied by Mr. Bonner, a butcher. Eastbourne is in trouble over its water supply and drainage The borough has been ordered to install those services, but is handicapped by its financial position. It. does not want to install a local water scheme, as there are prospects that in a few years it will be able to connect with Wellington's big scheme. Whatever course is adopted, while there is no water fires must be difficult to fight.
