HORSES CHEAPER THAN CARS
Horse haulage still remains cheaper than the motor lorry. The National Horse Association of Great Britain has been studying the matter, and it gives the cost per ton of goods removed at 3/7 "by horse-drawn vehicles against 5/1 for motor lorries. This includes, ill the case of the horse-drawn lorries, the cost of feeding, renewal and repair of harness, depreciation of horse and cart, shoeing and veterinary services, stabling, repairs to the cart, and the drivers wages and insurance; while in the case of the motor lorry the driver's wages, oils, waste, depreciation, garaging, license, and repairs are included.
