HOW PIXIE-TOWN WAS SAVED.

Hie pixies were very busy, spraying a magic -mixture upon the mushrooms to n ake them grow. You see, there was a housing shortage in Pixieland, and they wam;d to make a new town for themselves. Of course the mushrooms grew very rapidly, and the pixies cut out windows and doors and climbed into their n<rw homes. They hollowed out rooms with their spades, and then went out to find something for breakfast. Just as they were returning, laden with roots and fairy butter, they heard a fhudding-thudding above them. Two little girls, with baskets half-full of mushrooms in their hands, were approaching. The pixies hid and waited, trembling, to see what would happen. "What big button mushrooms," said a voice. "Do you think they are good?" "I'm not sure. They don't look quite natural to me. Still, we can take them home and ask mother."

One girl stooped towards a mushroom, but just as site whs about to pick it, n long, long worm put out his head inquiringly from the doorway, stretching hi ni self towards her. "Oh!" she cried, almost dropping the basket she carried. "There's a horrid worm in that one; and v see, all of the mushrooms are riddled with holes!" The children passed on in disgust. Willie Worm dropped down from the doorway of Mushroom Manor and prepared to return to the ground. "What were you doing in my house?" demanded Pedro Pixie, trying to sound stem. "Oh, just exploring," mumbled Willie, as half of him disappeared into the ground. "Wait. We want to thank • you for saving our houses," said Pedro; but now nothing was visible save the tip of Willie's tail. He waved that and vanished.
