MR. A. A. WINSLOW.
FORMER U.S. CONSUL-GENERAL. The United States Consul at Auckland, Mr. W. F. Boyle, has received information of the death at Crown Point, Indiana, on August 16, of Mr. Alfred A. Winslow, who was much esteemed during the time he was stationed here. Mr. Winslow was Coneul-General for the United States from 1915 to 1920. He was 75 years of age, and in his earlier years was editor and publisher of a newspaper at Hammond, Indiana. He wae also interested in real estate. It was in 1898 that Mr. Winslow was first appointed to the consular service, being stationed at Liege, Belgium. Four years later he was promoted to be Consul-General at Guatemala City, Central America, and afterwards held similar posts at Valparaiso, Chile, 1906-15; Auckland, 1915-20 and Capetown, 1920-22. Mr. Winslow spent 1923 and part of 1924 ae Consul at Windsor, Ontario, and St. John's, Newfoundland, pending the paseage of retirement legielation by the United States Congress. This having been done, he left the service in July, 1924, and returned to his home at Crown Point, Indiana. During the period he was stationed in Auckland Mr. Winslow had added responsibility on account of the Great War. After that he wae transferred to Capetown,' the office of Consul-General was moved to Wellington, and a, consulate wae established in this city. Mr. Winslow was throughout his life a staunch adherent of the Methodist Church. Hβ is survived by Mrs. Winslow.
