NATIVE FLORA IN DOMAIN. HORTICULTURISTS PLEASED. Members of the Auckland executive oi the Institute of Horticulture have expressed, their pleasure plan which has been referred to thenv for their opinion, by the Parks Committee of the City Council with a view to the laying out of that part of the Domain adjoining the hospital: grounds a botanical garden, to be used- for the planting of New Zealand flora. The plan is one which was prepared by the acting city engineer; Mr. J. Tyler, after consultation with the superintendent of parks, Mr. T. E. Pearson. It provides for the laying out of paths arid the formation of drives at an estimated cost of f TO6O, but the estimate is exclusive of the cost of the planting of "trees* While the completion of the work may be a matter of years, members of the Institute, of " Horticulture are pleased that negotiations have reached the stage of plotting the grounds on the slope which iaces the city from the neighbourhood ' of' the artificial ponds at the top of. the Domain Hill down to near the junction of Grafton Road and Stanley Street. "Those members of the executive who have the plan appreciate the action of the City Council," said the honorary secretary, Mr. N. R. W. Thomas, to-day. "The scheme is certainly comprehensive and should provide for utilising to the fullest advantage the site which was set aside two years ago by the council on- the recommendation of the special committee which investigated the original proposal." :Xt is understood that- no provision has bqpn made for financing the work set out in the plan. The executive of the Institute of Horticulture hopes that it may be done out of the annual appropriation for city parks. This is a matter for the , decision of the City Council.
