October 17, 19—South Canterbury J.C. October 28—Waverley R.C. October 28—VVaikato Hunt Club. October 2S—Waipawa County K.C. Night Comet will most likely be seen out at the Cambridge meeting. She is looking more solid and is going ahead in her work in good style. Star Stranger, False Scent and Knightlike are still at Avondale and will remain there until a day or so before the Auckland spring meeting opens. Bulolo had another defeat registered against him when he was beaten into third place on the opening day at Geraldine. However, he was racing in opeu company and may do better among the hack division. Narrative has evidently trained on the right way since the National meeting judging by her success in the Beliicld Handicap at Geraldine last Thursday. She is a five-year-old mare by Solferino from Parable. J. Buchanan has a promising looking maiden in Tambourine, by Lucullue from Tact. This filly, who has been in work for some months, is built on very solid lines, and by the way she is shaping in her training tasks indicates that she may do well later on. Vallar has resumed work again at Ellerslie after a couple of weeks spell, due to an injury to his foot. The little chestnut sprinter is engaged at the meeting to bo held at Ellerslie next week, but he will hardly be forward enough to do himself justice. Having his first run over hurdles Pangolin put up a creditable performance by annexing the hurdle event at Geraldine last Thursday. He is an aged gelding by Panmuro from Bengaline, who is likely to do well in the future as a hurdler. Karamu did not show himself up in a favourable light when tried over the steeplechase fences at Ellerslie a few mornings ago. He has previously shown a dislike to the big fences and his future efforts will be confined to racing over hurdles. The Hunters' Steeplechase candidate Marita gave a good exhibition of safe jumping over the big fences at Ellerslie during the week. This gelding has trained on well since he raced at the Pakuranga meeting and may show up in minor steeplechase events in the future. Although not raced at the Avondale meeting Eager Rose is going along quite satisfactorily in her work at Ellerslie. She- lias hardened up in condition and although she has only been in training a short time, following , on a spell, she is making good progress. The racing Good Boy had at Avondale should serve to improve him u for his engagements at Ellerslie. The chestnut gelding recorded a smart sprint over four furlongs last Thursday morning, but may require a couple of races yet before being back to his best form. Recent track work points to Golden Wedding being an improved marc the next time she goes out to contest a race. She shaped well in a schooling task just before the Avondale meeting and has also been hitting out very freely in her gallops on the flat. This, marc has put up several creditable efforts over hurdles and is just at the age when further improvement can be looked for. The Trentham trainer, S. Reid, is still located at Avondale with his team of gallopers. Historic's success in the Avondale Cup is sure to keep him in the limelight for his engagements at Ellerslie, the most important of which is the, Mitchelson Cup. With 9.7 in the event referred to, Historic will find hie task much moro difficult than was the case at Avondale. At Ellerslie several of his opponents will be meeting him on much better terms and can be expected to show improved form as the .result of their racing at Avondale. Polyxena, who is engaged in sprint events at the Auckland spring meeting, was a smart two-year-old last season, at which age she registered two winning performances. She also acted as runnerup to Gay Ballerina in the Mid-summer Handicap, five furlongs, at Ellerslie, the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes, seven furlongs; at Awapuni, and the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, six furlongs, at Ellerslie. These performances point to her being a galloper above the average and her three-year-old career is likely to be closely followed by the racing fraternity.
