NOT SIR JOSEPH.
NEXT HIGH COMMISSIONER. RUMOURS AND "BLOOMERS." PRIME MINISTER'S REPLY. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. In a humorous manner Sir Joseph Ward this morning disposed of a rumour that he will be the next High Commissioner. "I don't object to rumours about myself," he said, "but I do object to bloomers being made on the floor of the house— (Laughter)—and an hon. member having the cool assumption that he is correct. The rumour was, I was going as High Commissioner to represent this country, and to become a peer, and various other suggestions. 1 want to tell him he is quite wrong. I have no intention of accepting the High Commissionership, and no conjuring up in the mind of that member or in the minds of those associated with him, has any foundation in fact."
