ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES.
VERY lITTXE FAST WORK. RED LION SPRINTS NICELY. A cold southerly wind made matters rather unpleasant for training work at Ellerslie this morning-, but the weather remained fine, despite the fact that it had been raining overnight. The course proper, with the flags 50ft out from the rails, the No. 3 grass, and the steeplechase course were available. The going was inclined to be greasy. Course Proper. Thursby and Kawainga were the lirst out, and ran seven furlongs on this track in 1.41, being together at the finish. Brampton, Neil and Tambourine sprinted half a mile in 5Gs. They finished in a bunch. Importer did strong work over a round, covering the last seven furlongs in 1.45. ■Grand, Spirit, Chief Link and Great Emblem jumped away at the half-mile peg and finished as named, after covering the distance ill 545. Grand vSpirit was slow to begin, but after going a furlong was alongside her companions, and beat them easily by a length and a-half.. Chief Link is-a nice mover, but he appeared to be slipping about in the going. Silvermine sprinted down the straight, hiting out very freely. Sea Comet did strong work over a mile and a-half. running the last round in 2.22'2-5. Eager Rose completed a six-furlong task in 1.28 1-5, and Corinax was too good for Restaurant over an extra furlong in 1.37 2-5. British Princess and Manawhcnua were, together, just in front of Running Over, at the end of a half-mile run in 56 2-ss. Ruling King was allotted a five-fur-long... task, but was not after time. War Officer and Cufrajong ran six furlongs in 1.25 2-5. There was little ■between them when the post was reached. Singleton reeled off a six-furlong task in 1.28 3-5, without being hurried. Bom harder was going better than Alloy; over a iive-furlong sprint, run in 1.10. " , Red Lion began smarter than Roman Pearl and Catoma at the half-mile post, and beat them by several lengths in 5;5 4-ss. This was a good gallop, and Rod Lion looks an improved horse as the result of his trip to Sydney. Gay Cockade strode over six furlongs in L 26. Diamond Queen was too good for Calithe at the end of seven furlongs, which took 1.41. Measurer easily accounted for a companion over half a mile in 55 2-ss. Amor and Leader jumped off at the seven-furlong peg and completed their task in 1.38 4-5. Amor was doing best at the finish. Sir Archie was too good for Kauri' Park.; while '.traversing a round in 2.21. Hannibal, from a flying start, covered half a mile in 53 3-ss. Master Doo'n and Harbour View were, several lengths in front of Kamehameha at the conclusion of a round in 2.18 3-3. Odin was. given a similar task. He commenced slowly, and ran the last seven furlongs in 1.42 3-5. Some T.ady was sent five furlongs, running the last half-mile in 50 3-ss. .. Good Bov went freely over five furlongs, which he left behind in 1.10 2-5. No. 3 Grass. Salamander covered six furlongs in 1.27. - Bizarro easily accounted for Mai'ita while running six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. The Jumpers. Bonnie Day (Olive) cleared a couple of hurdles safely. (Golden Wedding (Husband) and Adjuster (Nightingale) were sent over six schooling hurdles,.and got through their tasks in a satisfactory manner. Golden Wedding impressed most. Piayonnant (Butterworth) and Raheppto (H. Dulieu) were companions over a round of the steeplechase course, giving a. aopd display. The former did his work best, and finished, in front. Chesterman (Brady) .started off over a round of the.schooling hurdles. After •jumping the first two fences safely he came to grief at the third obstacle.' and was not tried again.
