PAPATOETOE ROTUNDA.
OPENING IN DECEMBER,
Arrangements have been made for a gala day to be held at Papatoetoe on December 14 in connection with the opening of a band rotunda. Two committees have been set up, one representing the interests of the band, with* Mr. W. Brown as chairman and the other consisting of ladies under Mrs. T. R. Smytheman. It was decided at a meeting of the band committee this week to invite delegates from the local Chamber of Commerce, the WelfiJe League, the school committee and the various sports bodies in order to make a combined district opening function. The reserve at the rear of the Town Hall, on which the rotunda will be built, consists of five acres and has an entrance way, planted with ornamental shrubs, from Wallace Road. The foundations have been laid .for the rotunda on a central position in the park and the work will be commenced next month. Plans have been prepared by Mr. E. S. Sorenson, chairman of the works committee of the Papatoetoe Town Board, who will supervise the construction. A sum of £80 in loan money is available, and,' as voluntary labour will assist in the work, it is expected that this amount will be sufficient to meet the cost.
