SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION.
YOUNGER PLAYERS' SUCCESS. SHORTAGE OF GROUNDS. Members of the City and Suburban Cricket Association held their annual meeting last evenin, when Mr. J. Elliott presided over a good attendance. The striking improvement in the play of the younger players was referred to in the sixteenth annual report. The engagement of G. R. Cox, of Sussex, was a step forward in the progress of the association and his fine Avork had a lot to do with the improved form of_ the players. Dealing with the association's future activities as regards a coach, the report stated the committee had :to abandon the policy for the present. It was, however, the intention of the association to consider a coaching scheme in the near future. One of the most serious setbacks experienced last season was the shortage of playing grounds, necessitating the complete elimination of the fourth grade. The Auckland representative team, was again successful in winning the Walker Shield at a tournament held at Christchurch. The senior grade A competition was again won by Harbour Board. Junior competitions were particularly well contested, and record entries were received in all grades. Further expansion depended mostly upon grounds available.
During discussion on the coach question it was suggested that a New Zealand cricketer of sufficient experience should he engaged, and several exDominion reps, were named as likely to fill the position. The matter was referred to the executive committe for favourable consideration.
Following lengthy discussion it was decided to refer the matter of the number of teams to be admitted to the senior A grade to the executive committee.
It "was decided to endorse Mr. Stallworthy's suggestion of a junior tournament among affiliated associations.
The election of officers resulted:— Patrons, Messrs. A. Pratt, L. Marks; president, Mr. J. Elliott; vice-presidents, same as last season, and Mr. G. Wilson; hon. secretary, Mr. E. Stallworthy; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. Riddell; auditors, Messrs. C. Cowan and H. Johnston.
