NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL.
SOUTH SYDNEY ITINERARY.
INVITATION FROM AUSTRALIA.
The council of the New Zealand Rugby League met last evening, Mr. Cyril Snedden presiding. Arising out of the recent inter-Island match, the West Coast League protested at emergency preference being given to Spencer over Tannantyre, and it was decided to forward details to other South selectors for explanation. It was reported that all southern Leagues were delighted with their victory and a request was made that the fixture next year should be_ held in the South, preferably at Christchurch. The Otago League suggested that Canterbury, being the first League established'in the South Island, should hold the Lipscombe Cup. West Coast, asked for support in connection with the staging of a match against Canterbury at Westport, but the council considered it was too late in the season and suggested that the matter be reconsidered early next year.
Considerable attention was given to arrangements for tlie South Sydney team's visit. It was decided that the winner of the champion of champions match to-morrow should play the first game on October 12 against the visitors, the other fixtures to be arranged on the evening of that match. Mr. Harlock, of South Auckland, was appointed referee and Messrs. L. Bull and P. Rogers line umpires. The entertainment to be given South Sydney will include a harbour excursion. An official invitation dated September 18 was received for the visit to Australia next year of a New Zealand team. The Board of Control wrote at length suggesting that the first ' match be played in Sydney no sooner than June 2S. This date was mentioned tentatively pending the return of the Australian team now in England. Further deliberations would depend upon the success of the latter tour, and also to avoid clashing with the dates in connection with the visit of. the English Rugby Union team to Australia, It was desired to arrange a programme New South Wales v. Queensland at Sydney, and New Zealand v. New South Wales, to be followed by Queensland v. New Zealand at Brisbane, and Queensland v. New South Wales at Brisbane. It was hoped to arrange for New Zealand three Saturdays and two mid-week fixtures in New South Wales and later two Saturdays in Brisbane and fixtures at Ipswich, Toowoomba, Rockhampton and Townsville. The New Zealand League would be guaranteed against any financial loss on fixtures played other than in Sydney and Brisbane, the terms in this respect being similar to those given in previous years. The board would probably accept the details as submitted by the New Zealand League in
