WHO WILL BE ADMITTED?

CLASSIFICATION NEEDED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this (lay. "I am very pleased that such a forward step in the form of humanitarian legislation has been made by the Government," said the Rev. Bryan King, when asked to comment upon the provisions of the Best Homes Bill. That the clause in regard to the committal of persons charged with offences involving vagrancy requires qualification, is the view held by Mr. King. He said it would probably defeat the objects of the homes if provision were made for all persons, irrespective of their needs, and without regard to their social fitness. Probably the Government had the intention of classifying the persons who would bo admitted to these rest homes, otherwise there would be danger of mixing people who were unable to associate happily. There must bo classification, because it would be a cruel thing, for instance, to put people suffering from mental infirmary in the same institution as other destitute persons.
