Young Prisoner Fatally Shot By Constable. GAOL ESCAPEE. (Received 11 a.m.) 'SYDNEY, this day. In a desperate struggle with a constable, Thomas Aiken, nineteen, one of the two youths who escaped from the Lithgow lock-up a week ago, was fatally shot at -Rooty Hill, last night. Constable Bartlett discovered Aiken in a relative's house. The fugitive made off in the scrub and the constable followed. _ Aiken turned on'his pursuer and gained a strangle hold on ■ him. The constable then drew a revolver and fired, Aiken being mortally wounded in the chest.
