CANADA'S REINDEER.
LARGE HERD TO MIGRATE. SPECTACULAR TREK FROM ALASKA. (From our in-ii Correspondent.) OTTAWA, Ontario. One of the most spectacular treks in recent times is shortly to be carried out under the aegis of the Canadian Government, through its Department of the Interior, when 3000 of the largest, healthiest, and most virile reindeer in Alaska are to be assembled and transferred to some 15,000 square miles of selected grazing grounds lying east of the delta of the Mackenzie, in the North-west Territories. Here it is expected that the , animals will thrive and multiply in their new habitat. Some indication of tlio forethought required in planning the undertaking is gleaned from the statement that though the herd will be assembled on the northern coast of Alaska some .time in October of this year, it will not actually reach its destination until the spring of 1931, the half-way point being the region between Point Barrow and the Colville River. Here a long halt will be made during the spring and summer of 1930 while fawning takes place.
