HENDERSON AFFAIRS.
FAREWELL PRESENTATION.
A social and dance arranged by the Henderson Fruitgrowers' Association was held in the Henderson Town Hall on Tuesday evening for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr. W. H. Rice, chief orchard instructor for the Auckland district, who Is retiring from that position to join up with Messrs. Radley and Co. of Auckland. Mr..Rice has been in charge of the Auckland district for the last four years, during which period he made many friends who took advantage of last night's function to present him with a handsome oak tea tray and a three-piece silverplated tea set, as a token of their appreciation and esteem. The presentation was made by Mr. B. Carter, president of the association,- who referred in eulogistic terms to the excellent qualities displayed by Mr. Rice in the execution of his duties, spoke of the happy relations existing between him and the orchardists, and concluded by wishing him every success in his new position. ■ In responding, Mr. Rice stressed the fact that the crux of the industry was the export trade. He thanked them for their appreciation and said he would be pleased to help anyone who had need of his assistance. The toast of the ladies was proposed in a happy speech by Mr. Land, and was responded to by Mrs. W. G Williams. Songs were contributed by Miss'' Eva Roberts, Messrs. Buscomb, Wright and Corke, recitations by Miss Linda Moore and, humorous items by Mr. Thompson. Supper.was served to upwards of 120 people, after which dancing was indulged in. the .music being supplied by Mrs. de Montalk (piano) and Mr. Parker (violin).
