ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES.
A QUIET MORNING, CALITHE JUMPS COUNTRY WELL. The weather was fine for training work at Ellerslie this morning, but there was not a great deal of fast work, as most of the horses are having an easy time after racing at the Avondale meeting. No. 1 grass was available, and several horses were schooled over the] steeplechase fences, including the hill. No. l Grass Track. Gold Money and King Emerald were the first out, and there was little between; them at the end of iive furlongs run in 1.4 3-5. Kawainga was going better than Waif '' Officer at the conclusion of a similar task run in 1.5- 2-5, the last half-mile being run in 51 4-ss. Tambourine and Good Idea were • together at the end of four furlongs covered in 52 l-ss. Eager Rose completed a six furlong task in 1.20 2-5, doing it nicely. Great Emblem, on the outside, pleased, better than British Princess in a run from the four-furlong peg, which took 545. Corinax had Restaurant as a companion over a seven-furlongs journey, which' was covered in 1.32 Corinax is beginning to. shape better in his work, and was going best at the finish. Respirator strode over six furlones in 1.27. . • Clarus got to the end of half a mile in 535. Golden Wedding was given strong work over a round, running the last seven furlongs in 1.36 4-5, and the final halfmile in 535.
After Breakfast. Diamond Queen was not doing her best to run seven furlongs in 1.39 Luxurious was timed to run home from the four-furlong peg in 53 2-ss. Spring Song ran half a mile in 52 4-ss,' Thais and Speak Out went with her, but were.eased up over the last furlong. Thursby completed a six-furlong task in 1.19 4-5, - Master Doon and Kamehameha were practically together at the end of' a round, which they covered in 2.0 2-5. Some Lady sprinted four furlongs in 325. The Jumpers. Sir Archie (H. Jones) was sent over a couple of hurdles twice. He got in close to the first fence, but otherwise his display was good. Marita (Burgess), Karamu (McGregor) and Adjuster (Nightingale) started off over the steeplechase fences on the flat. Marita showed the way to his companions, and gave a good display. Karamu and Adjuster both baulked at the second fence of the double. They refused when tried again at this obstacle, but afterwards cleared the stonewall. Tin Whistle (McGregor), Calithe (H. Dulieu) Rayonnant (Butterworth) and Odin (Holland) started off over a round of the steeplechase course, clearing the sodwall, double and stonewall in the above order. Sea Comet (Hap) and Lady Spalpeen (Sharkey) joined them at the brush fence by the mile post, and all continued over the hill, completing their task by again jumping the fences on the flat. Calithe and Ladv Spalpeen "'ere in front at the finish, followed by Sea Comet and Tin Whistle, the other pair being well back. Calithe jumped well and his showing was impressive.. Lady Spalpeen, Sea Comet and Tir Whistle also made a good showing.
