THE DAYLIGHT EXPRESS.

Confident that results will justify the enterprise, the Railways Department has decided to begin the summer service of the North Island daylight Limited on September 30 each way. In previous years this extra express has not been put on until much later in the season. This special service means that Invercargill is brought within little more than forty hours from Auckland —a total run of about 1000 miles, including the Lyttel-ton-Wel!ington ferry connection. Apart from the scenic aspects of the daylight Limited this express has a farreaching economic importance to the whole of the Dominion. The saving of time for large numbers of business people in both islands —particularly the South Island —has to be considered in, relation to this new provision for public convenience. This extension of the daylight Limited period to half of the year marks another stage in Xew Zealand's progress and is a reminder to the owners of the railways that the management is not laggard in meeting the needs of the public in modern-transport.
