COAL CARGO FIRES.
FREQUENCY OF LATE. SYDNEY, September 24. The British steamer Anthea to-day reached the steamer Silton Hall, which is on fire in the Indian Ocean. She picked up the crew all well, and the Silton Hall was abandoned. .The Silton Hall left Durban on September 5 for Adelaide. It is believed spontaneous combustion is responsible for the fire, which is among the coal. Recently fires have occurred on other vessels bringing coal to Australia, namely, the King Cadwallon, which was destroyed last July off South Africa, and the steamer Ehymney, which returned to Durban with fires in all her holds. Then a fire broke out on the steamer Knpckfierna, which is now at Albany, while a fire occurred on the motor ship Tricolour in Sydney Harbour after her arrival with Scottish coal.
